Musical Chairs is a new body of work that aims to create a sensory-experience for the deaf and hard of hearing community. Kristen has been funded by the Canada Council of the Arts (Explore & Create grant) to develop three Haptic (vibrating) chairs to be shared by both the deaf and hearing community.

The project consists of three painted canvases and three (corresponding) upholstered Haptic Chairs. After created, each original painting will be photographed and those images will be printed onto fabric. Using this fabric Kristen will reupholster three chairs, outfitted with speakers underneath the seats to offer an immersive experience with music and art for deaf and hard of hearing audiences.

'Haptic Chairs' exist, and are a sensory enhancement that translates music into vibrotactile feedback. Essentially, they provide musical and sound experiences to deaf users, and bring awareness to non-deaf communities on how one might “hear” through feeling. Through enhancing the experience with my custom designed and soft, artful textiles, the sensory experience is strengthened.

**Artist talk at 3pm Show will be on display for one month.
